Construction of Visitor Centre and Administrative Building in Javakheti

The construction of visitor centre and administrative building has begun in Akhalkalaki. Minister of Environmental and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia Khatuna Gogaladze, Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas Rati Japaridze, and representatives of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the Reconstruction and Development Credit Bank (KfW) attended the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the centre and administrative building.

Facilitation of development of Protected Areas of Adjara

Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and the United Nations Development Programme are launching a new project that will facilitate development of protected areas in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

International Children’s Day

On 4 June, 2014, schoolchildren from “SOS Children’s Village” and Ltd Non-profit Secular Secondary School “Shovi” visited Lagodekhi Protected Areas. The visit took place in order to celebrate the International Children’s Day.

Meeting with the Residents of Machakhela Valley

On May 14, 2014, Deputy Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas Bakur Kvaratskhelia and Head of the Planning and Development Unit Toma Dekanoidze met with the residents of Machakhela Valley. The Agency of Protected Areas organized the meetings, which were held in the villages of Kedkedi and Zemo Chkhutuneti. Representatives from other nearby villages also attended the meetings.

Credit and Debit Cards Accepted at Prometheus Cave from May 2014

   

Starting in May 2014, visitors of Prometheus Cave have been able to purchase their entrance to Prometheus Cave using their credit or debit cards. Previously this service was unavailable. Due to the demand and requests of the cave’s visitors, the Agency of Protected Areas made the decision to enable visitors to purchase their admission to the cave using their credit or debit cards.

Pasture Management

 The first coordination meeting was held on pasture management at the initiative of the United Nations Development Programme. The meeting was attended by representatives of various governmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and experts.  The Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia was represented by Deputy Chairmen Bakur Kvaratskhelia and Lasha Moistsrapishvili. They delivered presentations on the current state of pastures in the protected areas, challenges as well as solutions.

Students of three different schools of Samtredia Municipality visited Prometheus cave. Rati Japharidze, Chairman of Agency of Protected Areas (APA) of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection (MoE) hosted a tour in the cave.

Signing of a Grant Agreement

At the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, the Charitable Donation Agreement was signed by Rati Japaridze – the Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas, David Morrison – Executive Director of the Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF), Irakli Gilauri – General Director of Bank of Georgia and Tornike Guruli – Director of the Bank of Georgia’s Future Foundation.

Company Energotrans, for the use of the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park Administration purchased two 4WD pick-up trucks equipped with mobile fire extinguishers.
