The Agency of Protected Areas, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, is diligently conducting a comprehensive inventory of forests across our entire country.
During September of the current year, the meticulous forest inventory operations were successfully concluded in the municipalities of Tetritskaro, Akhalkalaki, and Lagodekhi, covering an extensive total area of 33,665 hectares.
Forest management plans have been thoughtfully formulated for the safeguarded regions of Lagodekhi Strict Nature Reserve, Lagodekhi Managed Reserve, Algeti, and Javakheti Protected Areas. These plans are poised to facilitate the agency in executing sustainable forest management practices within the designated municipalities. Furthermore, efforts were dedicated to enhancing capacities, where individual staff members underwent training. The objective is to enable the Agency to conduct future forest inventories within protected areas autonomously, drawing upon its internal human resources.
One of the chief aspirations of the Agency of Protected Areas, part of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, lies in the preservation and restoration of forests within protected regions, fostering a sustainable management approach toward our invaluable natural resources. As an ongoing initiative, the agency consistently undertakes forest inventories.
Forest inventory serves as the cornerstone for devising measures aimed at sustainable forest management and safeguarding biodiversity. This crucial process also furnishes comprehensive information regarding the resources present within the forested areas.
It brings great pleasure to highlight that this commendable initiative was carried out under the auspices of the project, "Improving rural development in Georgia” funded by the European Delegation to Georgia and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme. This substantial project was diligently executed in protected areas over a span of 14 months, exemplifying the commitment to enhancing rural development and environmental preservation.
