Workshop regarding the declaration of Georgian Protected Areas as World Heritage Site
Workshop regarding the declaration of Georgian Protected Areas as World Heritage Sites was held in Tbilisi. The aim of the meeting was to emphasize on the importance of the World Heritage Convention, compile a preliminary list of priority areas, as well as select a prospective protected area and prepare the corresponding plan.
World Heritage Convention defines natural or cultural - historical types of objects that meet the specific criteria to be included in the World Heritage List. As a result of the workshop several particular places of protected areas to be granted with the status of the World Heritage Sites in the future have been identified.
The workshop was attended by Rati Japaridze - the Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, Tobias Garsteck – an expert of the World Heritage Site selection issues, as well as by some representatives of non-governmental organizations.
