Chairman of the Agency visits Germany
On September 22nd, 2013, Rati Japaridze, Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas, went on a work-related visit to Berlin, Germany, where he held a meeting with the former representative of The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Georgia - Tobias Garstecki.
During the meeting the prospect of including several protected areas of Georgia in the list of World Heritage Sites (UNESCO) was reviewed. This will be a major step forward for Georgia in terms of development of National Parks countrywide.
Furthermore, in Berlin, the Chairman of the Agency held a welcome speech and greeted the second term Klaus Toepfer scholarship holders. The Klaus Toepfer scholarship is granted to young professionals working in the field of nature protection and conservation, as well as in the management of protected areas from Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asian countries. Rati Japaridze is himself a graduate of this programme. He wished success to all new students, especially to Marika Kavtarishvili and Ilia Osepashvili, who are representing Georgia.
