Preparation for the summer tourist season is in the active phase in the protected areas of Georgia
Davit Iosebashvili, Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas, visited the protected areas in the Imereti Region, where he got familiar with the rehabilitation works. It is worth noting that, Martvili Canyon, Prometheus Cave, and Sataflia are among the most popular protected areas in Georgia.
In Sataflia, with the support of the Protected Areas Development Fund, the trail, and eco-educational spaces, as well as the museum space and the glass viewing platform are being actively renovated, and the lighting system on the trail is being changed. It is planned to replace the existing models of dinosaurs with new ones.
Yard beautification works are in the active phase in Martvili Canyon and Prometheus Cave; Rest areas are being rehabilitated, the Martvili Canyon ticket office is being renovated, and trails are being rehabilitated.
This current year, for ecotourism development purposes, up to 22.5 million GEL will be invested in various protected areas. In 15 protected areas, up to 1,200 km long hiking trails and accompanying tourist-recreational infrastructure are being rehabilitated/constructed in order to make traveling to the protected areas even more comfortable and safe.
