Navenakhevi Cave was opened in Terjola Municipality

By the organization of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia’s LEPL Agency of Protected Areas and City Hall of Terjola Municipality, Navenakhevi Cave was opened. 

Visitor Center, cafeteria and souvenir shop were arranged on place. Lightening system ans eco-tourist trail were organized as well. The infrastructural project was financed  from the budget of Georgia by 980 000 GEL.  

The opening ceremony was attended by local population, they were addressed by the representatives of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Agency of Protected Areas and representative of local self-governing system.

‘Protected Areas’ establishment and eco-tourism development is vitally important for local population, forasmuch after developing eco-tourism, local population will have an economical benefit for theirselves.’ – emphasized Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Mr. Iuri Nozadze.  

Imereti caves is very popular on international level as well. Prometheus Cave is the bright example of this case: during the year it was visited by more than 175 000 visitors. By establishing protected areas, and eco-tourism development, the number of vacancies are increasing that is the beneficial for local population.

Navanakhevi Cave is distinguished by stalagmites, stalactites and 250 meters length cave within 4 halls. The cave was popular in 1980s among visitors, but it was closed later, because of infrustrute problems.
