In line with the award of World Heritage status to the "Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands", UNESCO has begun training site staff.
The purpose of the training program is to strengthen the capabilities of the "Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands" and study the specifics of managing UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites.
International expert Tobias Garstetski conducted training for the employees of Kolkheti and Mtirala National Parks and Kintrishi and Kobuleti Protected Areas. The training focused directly on the management practices of UNESCO Natural Heritage sites.
It should be noted that UNESCO World Heritage sites periodically report to the UNESCO World Heritage Center. Accordingly, the issues of reporting to the UNESCO World Heritage Center were discussed at the training, as well as the integrated management document, which is a common general management plan for the mentioned four sites (Kolkheti and Mtirala National Parks and Kintrishi and Kobuleti Protected Areas).
The training of the employees of the Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia was carried out in accordance with international practice, with the financial support of GIZ, within the framework of the UNESCO project "Promoting Sustainable Tourism and Private Sector Engagement for Inclusive Development of Society in Response to the COVID-19 Crisis". The highlighted project is developed by the Protected Areas Development Fund of Georgia.
It should be pointed out that for the first time in the history of Georgia, in 2021, four protected areas of Georgia (Kolkheti and Mtirala National Parks and Kobuleti and Kintrishi Protected Areas) were added to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List under the status of “Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands”.
