Cleanup Event at Ajameti Managed Reserve

Cleanup Event at Ajameti Managed Reserve

Today, a cleanup event was held in the territory of Ajameti Managed Reserve. The event was initiated by the Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, in cooperation with the administration of Ajameti Managed Reserve. Ajameti State Reserve was established in 1946; in 2007, it received the status of a Managed Reserve. The Ajameti forests are distinguished by the virgin Zelkova and Imeretian oak groves and are unique due to the fact that the subtropical mixed forests have been preserved here in their original state. The total area of Ajameti Reserve covers about 5117 hectares.

Within the framework of the event, the Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection, Rati Japaridze, together with the Director of Ajameti Managed Reserve Administration and students from the Public School N1 of Dimi Village participated in the cleanup activities. Some local volunteers also took part in the event. Involvement of school students in such type of cleanup event is important in order to raise the environmental awareness of the young generation and will contribute towards the protection of Georgia’s natural heritage in general.
