New tourist attractions at Mtirala National Park

On November 12th, 2013, with the support of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and a few German tourism sector experts, new extreme and recreational services for tourists have been introduced at Mtirala National Park. One of them is a zipline, which is a pulley suspended on a stainless steel cable and mounted on an incline. It is designed to enable a user propelled by gravity to travel from the top to the bottom of the inclined cable by holding on to, or attaching him/herself to the freely moving pulley. The length of this particular is zipline is approximately 200 meters.

The second service introduced at Mtirala is canyoning, where individuals travel through canyons and slide down waterfalls using a variety of techniques. This type of recreation is very popular in Western countries. The area designated for canyoning activities in Mtirala is approximately 700 meters long.

The introduction of these services was initiated by the Agency of Protected Areas, the Georgian Tourism Association and Biodiversity Conservation and Research Center NACRES.

These new tourist attractions will be available to visitors immediately after the construction works are finished on site. German experts conducted training for the staff and rangers of the park in technical issues related to the proper use of the zipline and the canyoning equipment.
