Agency of Protected Areas Hosts working meeting for Tbilisi National Park Management Plan in the involvement of relevant stakeholders.
The purpose of developing a management plan for protected areas is to define long-term goals and appropriate management approaches for protected areas. The active involvement of stakeholders is significant in the development of a management plan.
The first working meeting held in connection with the development of Tbilisi National Park's management plan, with the involvement of interested parties, focused on the principles and stages of management plan preparation.
Various topics critical to the long-term management of the protected area were addressed in the management plan during the meeting. These key considerations included implementing protection-patrol measures to safeguard protected areas, monitoring biodiversity, ensuring sustainable management of natural resources, encouraging the development of ecotourism, managing fires, and pest diseases, promoting environmental education and public relations, and improving administrative knowledge and skills.
The protected area management plan is being developed in accordance with the requirements of Georgia's Law "On the System of Protected Areas" and the regulation of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia dated March 12, 2014 #110 - on the stages and procedures for preparing the methodology for the development of the structure, content, and thematic parts of the protected area management plan.
The Tbilisi National Park management plan is developed with the financial support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Sweden, within the Governance Reform Fund (GRF) project.
The working meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Agency of Protected Areas, the Tbilisi National Park Administration, local municipalities, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties.
