A working meeting was arranged with the heads of territorial administrations in the Agency of Protected Areas to discuss the results of 2022 and plans for 2023
The Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas, Davit Iosebashvili, noted at the meeting that the protection, preservation, and monitoring of biodiversity is a priority of the Agency. The participants of the meeting discussed the challenges and needs in the direction of nature protection and summarized the work carried out by each territorial administration of the Agency of Protected Areas.
In 2023, work will continue on issues of natural resource management, including species protection and monitoring, strengthening of anti-poaching measures, and elimination of law violations. It was noted that in 2022, 274 violations of law were detected by the rangers in the protected areas. Issues of introducing modern SMART technologies for patrolling and biomonitoring, which makes patrolling in protected areas even easier, were emphasized within the pilot program.
It was noted at the meeting that the implementation of the planned works in the direction of ecotourism development will significantly contribute to the attraction of tourist flows to the protected areas, and will give the local population the opportunity to generate additional economic benefits. In 2023, as part of the development of the ecotourism infrastructure, it is planned to establish a network of hiking trails and develop the accompanying recreational-tourist infrastructure.
